How Jurny trips work
Every Jurny trip has one Trip Owner who creates and controls the trip, and any number of Members who collaborate on planning and expenses. Understanding this model will answer most questions about who can do what.
Trip Owner — full control
Member — collaborate & view
Jurny is built for international group travel
When creating a trip you'll pick a destination country — this powers visa checks, currency defaults, and timezone-aware planning. Domestic trips are not currently supported.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tap + New trip from your home screen and fill in your destination, start date, and end date. That's it — your trip is live.

To invite your group, open the trip and tap Invite Members. You'll get a shareable link that works even for people who haven't downloaded Jurny yet — they can accept via browser and join once they sign up.

💡 You can update the trip name at any time from Trip Settings. The cover photo is auto-selected based on your destination country.

The Trip Owner is the person who created the trip. They have full control: editing trip details, removing members, changing split rules, and deleting the trip entirely.

Members can view the full trip, add expenses, contribute to the day plan, and mark tasks complete — but cannot change trip-wide settings or remove other members.

  • Only the owner can change the trip currency or upload flights, stays, and visas.
  • Members can edit stay details and add day plan items, but cannot upload bookings.
  • Members can delete their own expenses; the owner can delete any expense.
⚠️ Deleting a trip is permanent and can only be done by the owner. This removes all expense history, day plan items, and bookings for everyone.

Any member can log an expense by tapping + Expense. Enter the description — Jurny auto-detects the category — then the amount and who paid. Choose how to split:

  • Equal split — divided evenly across all selected members.
  • Custom amounts — specify exactly what each person owes.

The Balances tab shows your current position and a Settle Up section — a simplified list of who pays who to clear all balances in the fewest transactions. Tap Mark as Settled once payment is made outside the app.

💡 Set a trip-wide default currency to avoid manual conversion. Jurny auto-converts using live exchange rates.

Yes. Go to Expenses → Import and upload a CSV file. Jurny accepts the standard Splitwise export format, or any CSV with columns for date, description, amount, currency, and payer.

During import, you'll map CSV columns to Jurny fields and confirm which trip members correspond to the names in the file. Jurny will preview all expenses before committing — nothing is saved until you confirm.

💡 To export from Splitwise: open the group → tap the three dots → Export as CSV. Then upload that file directly to Jurny.

Jurny connects your bookings to your timeline automatically:

  • Flights — the Trip Owner adds flights via PDF upload or manual entry. Each flight's departure time surfaces as a countdown on the trip home screen and on My Flights.
  • Stays — the Trip Owner adds hotel or rental details. Members can edit stay information once added.
  • Day Plan — a shared daily itinerary all members can view and add to. Mark who is going on each activity. When Auto-add is enabled in Settings, flights and stays appear automatically on the right day.

Everything feeds into one timeline view so the whole group can see what's happening each day — no shared notes doc or pinned chat messages needed.
